Hosts: Don and Mary Helen Deakin
Don and Mary Helen’s maple operation offers both traditional and innovative products. Each spring sap is collected in buckets and transformed into syrup in a refurbished 1910 style sugar shack. Avid conservationists, Don and Mary Helen are planting numerous saplings every year to rejuvenate their over 120 year-old maple syrup forest. Maple products are consumed and purchased by Bed and Breakfast guests and local farm gate shoppers. Don conducts educational summer forest tours and maple syrup-making workshops on the property with domestic and international guests. The Deakins have also enlisted Ottawa Valley and Ontario Highlands partners in the promotion of Ontario maple culinary adventure tours.
